Denmark orders $42M in Naval Strike Missiles to bolster Baltic coastal defense

Denmark has ordered additional Naval Strike Missiles (NSM) from Norway’s Kongsberg under a contract worth about NOK 400 million (approximately $42 million), the company announced on October 19, 2026. The number of missiles was not disclosed.

According to Kongsberg, the sale is structured as a government-to-government transaction between the Norwegian Defense Materiel Agency (FMA) and the Danish Ministry of Defense Acquisition and Logistics Organization (DALO). The missiles are intended to strengthen Denmark’s coastal defense.

The original agreement, valued at approximately NOK 2 billion (about $212 million), covered missiles, ship-based equipment, training and logistics support, with deliveries scheduled between 2025 and 2030.

Separately, in December 2025, DALO ordered Kongsberg’s land-based NSM coastal defense system, a direct award intended to accelerate the introduction of the capability.

Coastal missile batteries to defend Danish straits

Denmark plans to station its mobile coastal missile batteries at Korsør Naval Base, with the first elements expected to arrive in 2026.

Once fully established, the force is expected to comprise up to 100 personnel, including conscripts. Its primary mission will be to strengthen Denmark’s control over the Danish straits and access to the western Baltic Sea.

In 2025, Denmark became the fifth NATO country to acquire Kongsberg’s coastal NSM system, following Poland, the US, Romania and Latvia.

The investment forms part of a broader modernization of Denmark’s maritime capabilities, which also includes the planned acquisition of two Boeing P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft. The post Denmark orders $42M in Naval Strike Missiles to bolster Baltic coastal defense appeared first on AeroTime.
