EASA certifies runway overrun alert technology for Embraer E-Jet E2

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has certified Embraer’s Runway Overrun Awareness and Alerting System (ROAAS) for the E-Jet E2 family, enabling the technology to be deployed on aircraft operated in Europe and other markets that recognize EASA approvals.

The recent certification follows an earlier approval from Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), extending the system’s availability beyond Embraer’s home market.

ROAAS is designed to help pilots identify the risk of a runway overrun during landing. The system continuously evaluates the aircraft’s landing performance in real time throughout the approach and after touchdown, using algorithms developed by Embraer to determine whether the aircraft can stop safely within the available runway length.

If the calculations indicate that the stopping distance may be insufficient, the system alerts the pilots, providing additional information that can support operational decision-making during one of the most critical phases of flight.

Unlike conventional landing performance assessments completed before landing, ROAAS constantly reassesses its calculations based on the aircraft’s condition. Embraer said the technology uses an energy-based approach to monitor landing performance margins throughout the landing sequence.
