easyJet launches longest flight from London Gatwick to Cape Verde’s Sal Island
easyJet has introduced its longest-ever flight, connecting London Gatwick to Sal, an island in Cape Verde.
On March 31, 2025, the airline announced Cape Verde, situated off Africa’s west coast, as the latest addition to its growing network. The service will connect London Gatwick Airport (LGW) with Amílcar Cabral International Airport (SID).
The new route spans 2,700 miles (4,345 kilometers) and will take five hours and 50 minutes each way, surpassing the airline’s previous longest route from an English airport, which was between Manchester and the Egyptian resort of Hurghada, and covered 2,580 miles (4,152 kilometers).
“We know our customers are always looking for exciting new places to explore, and our flights and package holidays to Sal in Cape Verde, off the coast of sub-Saharan Africa, offer the perfect combination of relaxation and adventure,” said Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK Country Manager.
The inaugural sub-Saharan service took off on March 31, 2025, and will operate three times a week with an A320neo aircraft every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday throughout the year.
According to easyJet, customers were surprised with giveaways at the boarding gate to mark the occasion, including a goodie bag from the airline and package holiday company, containing travel essentials such as a travel adaptor and a travel bag. Upon arrival in Sal, customers were met with a welcome ceremony which featured local musicians.
Jennifer Newman, Airline Relations Manager at London Gatwick said that the airport is “delighted” about easyJet’s decision to introduce a new route to Cape Verde.
easyJet is London Gatwick’s largest airline. In 2024, easyJet celebrated carrying 250 million passengers to and from the airport, with its first Gatwick flight taking place on December 16, 1999, to Geneva, before the carrier opened its base there in 2002.
Currently, easyJet connects London Gatwick to European cities like Paris and Amsterdam, as well as to a range of leisure destinations such as Spain, Italy, Tunisia, Turkey and Egypt. The post easyJet launches longest flight from London Gatwick to Cape Verde’s Sal Island appeared first on AeroTime.
