Embraer to appear at Avalon Airshow to promote range to Australasian customers
With a presence in the Australian aviation scene stretching back to 1978, the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer will be seeking to attract new customers to its product range when the company attends the upcoming Avalon Airshow. The event is due to be held at Avalon Airport located to the west of the city of Melbourne between 25 and 30 March 2025. Embraer’s attendance comes as the company marks 47 years in the market since its first aircraft, an EMB-110 Bandeirante first appeared in Australia’s skies.
Embraer says it will attend the show to promote its entire range of aircraft from commercial regional aircraft to light business jets, and its military aircraft including the C-390 Millenium multirole transport aircraft. The appearance comes as the company prepares to deliver the first of 20 Embraer E190-E2 regional jets to Virgin Australia later in 2025. In 2024, Virgin Australia announced a firm order for eight E190-E2s, forming part of Virgin Australia’s fleet renewal plan. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2025 and will be based in Perth, Western Australia.
Elsewhere in commercial aviation in the Australian market, the region is home to one of the largest E-Jet fleets in the Asia-Pacific region, says Embraer. Operators include Alliance Airlines, Airnorth, National Jet Express, and Air Kiribati. Alliance Airlines, Australia’s E-Jets operator with 38 aircraft in its fleet, serves domestic routes on behalf of Qantas. The carrier has a further 19 on order, according to ch-aviation. The company also began delivering E190-E2s to Singapore Airlines’ budget offshoot Scoot in late 2024.
Vidit Luthra / Shutterstock“Australia is a vital market for Embraer, and our presence at Avalon underscores our long-term commitment to the region,” said Raul Villaron, Vice President of Asia Pacific, Embraer Commercial Aviation. With a strong foundation of existing E-Jet operators and the exciting addition of Virgin Australia’s E190-E2 fleet, we’re confident that Embraer aircraft will continue to play a crucial role in connecting communities and driving economic growth across Australia.”
Embraer will also be keen to promote its newest member of the E-Jet family to new and existing Embraer customers in the region. Its E-Freighter cargo variant of the E-190 regional jet is seeking to replace older turboprop and jet aircraft in regional air cargo operations, and analysts believe that Australia in particular could be a successful market for Embraer’s passenger-to-freighter conversion.
EmbraerAcross other aviation sectors
Alongside the nearly 50 E-Jets that currently operate in the region, there are also 20 Embraer business jets operating in Australasia, which includes the Phenom 300 series of ultra-light private jet, the world’s best-selling and most-delivered light jet for the last 13 consecutive years, according to Embraer. The company will be hoping to attract more customers to the Phenom range as demand for private jet flights soars across the Australasia region.
EmbraerApart from focussing on commercial aviation, Embraer’s Defense and Security sales team will be showcasing the company’s portfolio of defense aircraft, including the C-390 Millennium. Since entering service with the Brazilian Air Force in 2019, the Portuguese Air Force in 2023, and, most recently the Hungarian Air Force in 2024, the C-390 has gone on to attract more international customers. In 2023, Austria, the Czech Republic, and the Republic of Korea also selected the C-390, while in 2024, Sweden, Slovakia, and an undisclosed customer also opted for the C-390.
The KC-390 has “proven its capability, reliability and performance. The current fleet of aircraft in operation has a mission capability rate of 93% and mission completion rates above 99%, demonstrating exceptional productivity in the category,” says the manufacturer.
Embraer Defense & SecurityThe appearance of Embraer at Avalon could be timely, as various media outlets have been recently reporting that the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) is currently evaluating a fleet renewal program as regional tensions escalate, and alliance dynamics shift. Australia’s air combat capabilities, in particular, have faced criticisms amid deteriorating regional security and emerging military technologies. In 2024, the RAAF completed the procurement process for 72 F-35A advance fighter jets to address these criticisms, but Embraer will also be hoping that its C-390 could feature in the modernization plans.
Since it was founded in 1969, Embraer has delivered more than 9,000 aircraft. According to the company, on average, about every 10 seconds, an aircraft manufactured by Embraer takes off somewhere in the world, transporting over 145 million passengers a year.
