False fire alarm causes chaotic evacuation of Ryanair 737; 18 passengers injured
Eighteen passengers have been injured after a false fire alarm sparked the chaotic evacuation of a Ryanair 737-8AS aircraft preparing to takeoff from Majorca for Manchester.
The aircraft, registered as G-RUKN, was evacuated on the tarmac at Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) on July 5, 2025, after an engine fire warning was reported in the cockpit while the aircraft was moving away from its parking spot at the gate.
Passengers disembarked using the inflatable slides to return to the terminal. However, according to a local news outlet Diario de Mallorca report, some travelers panicked, with some passengers escaping via the wings, jumping directly to the ground from the aircraft.
Among the 18 individuals who were injured during the evacuation, six were hospitalized. Three were reported to have been taken to Rotger Clinic, a hospital in Mallorca, and the other three to Quirónsalud Palmaplanas Hospital.
“While disembarking, a small number of passengers encountered very minor injuries (ankle sprains, etc.) and crew requested immediate medical assistance,” Ryanair’s statement read.
When the fire alarm went off, a truck from the AENA Fire Brigade was sent to the Ryanair aircraft’s location.
However, the firefighters discovered no signs of a fire. A Civil Guard patrol also arrived but similarly found no signs of flames or smoke. In a statement, the airline described the incident as a “false fire warning”.
To minimize disruption to passengers, the airline said it quickly arranged a replacement aircraft to operate the flight on the same day. Ryanair added: “We sincerely apologise to affected passengers for any inconvenience caused.”
The Civil Guard is investigating how the fire alarm was triggered. Currently, all signs suggest it was a false alarm and that there was no fire. The post False fire alarm causes chaotic evacuation of Ryanair 737; 18 passengers injured appeared first on AeroTime.
