Finnair considers order for up to 30 Airbus narrowbody aircraft
Finnish flag carrier Finnair is considering an order for up to 30 Airbus narrowbody aircraft to replace older jets in its fleet.
According to Reuters, the CEO of Finnair Turkka Kuusisto spoke with reporters in New York on September 3, 2025, where he hinted at a future order.
“One could argue that we would need 15, but of course we need to also do a … wider or extrapolated analysis that should it be 25 or 30, but that is still on the drawing table,” Kuusisto told reporters, according to Reuters.
Bloomberg said that Finnair was looking to decide by the end of the year as it looks to retire 15 A319 and A320s from service.
Finnair’s last major order was with Airbus for 19 A350-900 aircraft. So far, 18 of the widebody aircraft have been delivered with the airline awaiting the final jet.
Finnair made its initial order for 11 A350 aircraft in 2006. In 2014 the airline exercised its option for an additional eight A350s.
Finnair’s current fleet consists of five A319-100s, 11 A320-200s, 16 A321-200s, seven A330-300s, 12 ATR 72-500s, three Boeing 737-800s, and 12 Embraer E190s.
Last week Finnair announced it would strengthen its Southern European network in summer 2026 with new scheduled flights to destinations in Italy and Spain.
On August 29, 2025, the airline confirmed that next year it would launch summer flights to the Italian cities, Florence and Catania and Spain’s third most populated location, Valencia.
