flydubai makes first Airbus order with up to 150 A321neos at Dubai Airshow 2025
flydubai has ordered up to 150 Airbus A321neo-family aircraft on the second day of Dubai Airshow 2025, marking the first Airbus purchase in the airline’s history and ending its long-standing reliance on an all-Boeing narrowbody fleet.
The agreement, signed on November 18, 2025, takes the form of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of flydubai, signed the MoU alongside Airbus CEO Commercial Aircraft Christian Scherer, in a ceremony attended by Ghaith Al Ghaith, flydubai’s Chief Executive Officer.

Sheikh Ahmed said the agreement “represents another important milestone in flydubai’s journey” and aligns with Dubai’s economic and aviation development plans. He added that the A321neo order will help the carrier play a central role in the long-term expansion of Dubai World Central, which is intended to become the world’s largest airport.
Deliveries from 2031
The announcement gives Airbus a major commercial headline after Emirates dominated day one of the show with an additional Boeing 777X order. Airbus welcomed the airline as a new customer.
“The decision to invest in and introduce the A321neo into its fleet is another endorsement of the added value Airbus brings in terms of range, efficiency and passenger comfort,” Scherer said.
Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2031, positioning the new aircraft to support flydubai’s next phase of network and capacity growth. The order adds further pressure on Airbus’ A321neo production ramp, which is targeted to reach 75 aircraft per month by 2027.
