The national carrier of Bahrain, Gulf Air, has placed an order for 12 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, with an option to add six more, as part of its strategy to further expand its international network.
Once finalized, this order will bring the in the Middle Eastern carrier’s firm order book to 14 of the versatile widebody jets and support 30,000 jobs across the United States, Boeing announced in a statement on July 17, 2025.
“This agreement marks a transformative step in Gulf Air’s strategic growth journey as we expand our global footprint and modernize our fleet,” said Khalid Taqi, Chairman of Gulf Air Group. “The Boeing 787 Dreamliner has proven to be an exceptional aircraft for our long-haul operations.”
The 787 Dreamliner is the go-to aircraft for Gulf Air’s long-distance flights, linking more than 50 destinations. With 10 of the 787 aircraft in operation, the airline is set to expand its network, serving new and existing markets across Asia, Europe and the US.
“We are excited to build on our more than 60-year partnership with Gulf Air as we deliver the market-leading 787 Dreamliner to help the airline serve more passengers and connect more destinations,” said Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
Since receiving its first DC-3 in 1961, Gulf Air has acquired 37 Boeing aircraft, which includes the 787 jets currently part of its fleet.
In other developments, Gulf Air has announced plans to resume nonstop flights between Bahrain International Airport (BAH) and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) from October 2025.
This marks a significant step for the airline, which has been restructuring its operations to concentrate on more profitable routes.
