Iberia launches major route expansion, will offer record capacity in 2025
Iberia, Spain’s national carrier and member of the International Airline Group (IAG), has announced a major round of expansion for the northern summer 2025 IATA scheduling season which kicks off on March 30, 2025. The growth plans will see the carrier expand its global operations, with routes to the Americas, in particular, seeing the most rapid expansion.
In terms of routes between Europe and South America, a market in which the Spanish airline is the clear market leader with the largest range of destinations of any international carrier, connectivity will be at its highest-ever level in 2025, with 3.2 million seats between the two regions, a figure that represents an increase of 4% over 2024. This equates to over 300 flights per week where the airline will serve 18 destinations across 16 countries.
The cities of Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo will see the largest increase in weekly frequencies where Iberia will add three flights per week in both cases. Buenos Aires will have 21 weekly frequencies this season, while Sao Paulo will increase to 14 weekly frequencies, consolidating the carrier’s two daily flights. Lima in Peru will benefit from an additional frequency seeing the flights increase to double daily from May 2025.

Santiago de Chile will have 11 weekly frequencies from June 2025 onwards. Rio De Janeiro will maintain its five weekly frequencies, Caracas will have between three and five weekly flights depending on the month, and Guayaquil will have three weekly frequencies.
In Central America and the Caribbean, the offer also remains similar to 2024 Puerto Rico, Santo Domingo, Costa Rice, Guatemala, and San Salvador will maintain daily flights, while Panama will have up to four frequencies a week and Havana will continue with three weekly frequencies.
Airbus A321XLRs to the USA
The incorporation of the new Airbus A321XLRs in the coming months of 2025 will reinforce Iberia’s commitment to the United States, the country with the largest number of destinations in the airline’s intercontinental network. In the 2025 summer season, the airline will operate 140 weekly flights between Spain and the United Estates, which means a total of 1.1 million seats on sale, an increase of 14% over 2024.
Iberia flies non-stop to New York, (twice daily), Chicago (daily), Miami (twice daily), Dallas-Fort Worth (daily), Los Angeles (daily), San Francisco (three times a week), Boston (twice daily), and Washington DC (daily).
Iberia The latter two destinations will experience the greatest growth in summer 2025, with Boston doubling its 2024 offer from 1 to 2 daily flights from June 2025, and increasing weekly frequencies to Washington from 4 to 7 per week. Both destinations will be operated by the carrier’s new Airbus A321XLR aircraft, of which Iberia was the world’s launch airline.
Rest of the world
Fights to Tokyo in Japan will be maintained in the summer of 2025 so that around 63,000 seats will be offered from April to October 2025. Flights to Qatar will also remain unchanged, with a direct daily flight connecting Madrid and Doha operated by Iberia, plus two additional codeshare flights operated by partner Qatar Airways. The relationship with Qatar Airways allows not only point-to-point travel but also connects passengers onward from Doha to 49 destinations in Asia, 17 in Africa, 18 in the Middle East, and 6 in Oceania.
