ICAO’s 2025 Global Implementation Support Symposium concludes in Abu Dhabi
The 4th ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium 2025, alongside the inaugural edition of the UAE’s Global Sustainable Aviation Marketplace, concluded on February 12, 2025, in Abu Dhabi. The event, which took place from February 10 to 12, featured 30 panel discussions and interactive workshops, bringing together 135 prominent speakers, 51 exhibitors, and 36 organizing partners, with a total attendance of 2,135 aviation, energy, and technology professionals.
H.E. Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), emphasized that the strong international participation in this year’s symposium and the first edition of the Global Sustainable Aviation Marketplace underscores the global commitment to advancing a sustainable transformation of the aviation sector. He noted that ministerial participation reached record levels, highlighting growing international consensus on the urgent need to accelerate the production and financing of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) worldwide, in alignment with ICAO’s goal of “leaving no country behind.”
Al Suwaidi further stated that the two events facilitated the signing of 36 bilateral and multilateral agreements, covering government cooperation programs and commercial and investment partnerships. Among these agreements, two key MoUs were signed between the GCAA and ICAO to support research and development efforts for the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Aviation Award, valued at $1 million, and to enhance collaboration on developing and empowering the next generation of aviation professionals.
Additionally, the GCAA signed nine cooperation agreements and MoUs with Jordan, Libya, Nigeria, South Africa, and Kazakhstan, focusing on knowledge exchange, air transport service improvements, and training program development. Meanwhile, ICAO signed 19 agreements with participating countries to strengthen the global civil aviation system.
During the accompanying exhibition, five major commercial and investment partnerships were announced, involving companies specializing in electric aircraft development, vertiport infrastructure, and other emerging sustainable aviation technologies.
Al Suwaidi concluded by highlighting the radical transformation underway in the aviation sector, driven by artificial intelligence, climate commitments, futuristic infrastructure, and sustainable energy solutions. He pointed out that several nations, led by the UAE, are already taking significant steps toward enabling urban air mobility and shaping the future of air transport.
