Illustrated book. “Terre des hommes”
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s cult novel revisited and embellished with stunning illustrations by Riad Sattouf. A must-read for everyone!
A story of human relationships, values, courage, and worldview… An autobiography begun in 1938 and inspired by André Gide, “Terre des hommes” recounts Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s time with the Aéropostale and other periods of his life up to 1935.
Saint-Exupéry talks about his early days in the Aéropostale, his adventures with Mermoz and Guillaumet (the book is dedicated to the latter, in recognition of their shared adventure in the Andes), his flights from Toulouse to Dakar, South America, and more. He compiles articles, explores themes such as friendship, aviation of course, the planet, heroism, simplicity, the search for meaning, loneliness and… produces a true masterpiece! The result: the Grand Prix du roman de l’Académie française.
Today, his publisher at the time, Gallimard, is reissuing the work in an illustrated format with pencil drawings by Riad Sattouf, director (notably of “Les Beaux Gosses”) but above all a highly talented illustrator (“Les Cahiers d’Esther,” “L’Arabe du Futur,” “Pascal Brutal”). The result is 150 color illustrations that enhance a major work by the author of “The Little Prince”!
