Iranian military aircraft ‘destroyed’ in Israeli drone strikes on 6 airports
Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has claimed drone strikes have “destroyed” 15 military aircraft in attacks on six Iranian airports across the country.
On June 23, 2025, a spokesperson for the IDF said, “warplanes and combat helicopters belonging to the Iranian regime” had been targeted, including F-14s, F-5s, and AH-1s.
“As part of efforts to strengthen air superiority in Iranian airspace, the IDF attacked six Iranian regime airfields in western, eastern, and central Iran […] The destroyed aircraft were intended for use against Air Force aircraft and to thwart their attacks on Iranian territory,” the IDF spokesperson said.
They added: “The Air Force disrupted the ability to take off from these airports and paralyzed the operational capacity of the Iranian Air Force from them.”
As well as military aircraft, runways, underground hangars and a refueling aircraft were also targeted during raids.

Late on June 22, 2025, Israel also confirmed 20 fighter jets attacked military targets in Iran using intelligence guidance from the Intelligence Branch.
More than 30 munitions were deployed as “part of the IDF’s extensive operations to damage the Iranian regime’s military capabilities”.
“Air Force fighter jets attacked infrastructure for storing and launching missiles intended to strike the territory of the State of Israel, satellites and military radar sites for detecting and creating an aerial intelligence image in Karamanshah and Medan in western Iran. In addition, a surface-to-air missile launcher was attacked in the heart of Tehran,” the IDF said.
According to the BBC, Iran launched a single Iranian drone overnight at Israel. It was destroyed by air defenses.
However, before midday on June 23, 2025, Israel warned its citizens that missiles had been launched by Iran with Israeli air defenses “working to intercept the threat”.
“A short time ago, alerts were activated in several areas in the north of the country following the discovery of missiles launched from Iran into the territory of the State of Israel,” the IDF said.
