Japan Airlines signs order for 20 Airbus A350-900s, 11 A321neos at Farnborough
Japan Airlines (JAL) has officially signed a firm order with Airbus for 20 A350-900 widebody aircraft and 11 A321neo single-aisle planes, solidifying a commitment made in March 2024.
The announcement was made during a signing ceremony at the Farnborough International Airshow 2024.
The newly ordered A350-900s will enhance JAL’s international fleet, while the A321neo aircraft will boost the airline’s domestic services within Japan, replacing older Boeing 767s.
“We will accelerate the introduction of the state-of-the-art and fuel-efficient aircraft to provide our passengers with excellent service and to reduce CO₂ emissions,” commented Yukio Nakagawa, Executive Officer and Senior Vice President Procurement of Japan Airlines.
The delivery timeline for both types is 2028-2032. This addition brings JAL’s total A350 orders to 52, with 18 currently in operation. Notably, this order marks JAL’s first acquisition of the Airbus A321neo model.
