KLM launches new direct Amsterdam to Hyderabad route with Boeing 777-200ERs
Dutch airline KLM has commenced operations on its latest route between the Netherlands and India, with the inaugural flight between Amsterdam and Hyderabad landing safely in India after its eight-hour and 40-minute flight from the Dutch city.
Having left Amsterdam-Schiphol Airport (AMS) at 12:05 on September 2, 2025, the flight, operated by one of KLM’s Boeing 777-200ERs registered as PH-BQD, touched down at Hyderabad-Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD) at 00:15 local time on September 3, 2025. The Indian city becomes the airline’s fourth destination in the country, after Delhi. Mumbai and Bengaluru. KLM will operate three weekly flights to this new destination, with each flight being operated by Boeing 777-200ERs.
The arrival of the inaugural flight (flight number KL873) was celebrated in Hyderabad, as was the departure of the first flight back to Amsterdam. Festivities at the airport included a traditional Indian dance performance. Representing KLM, a delegation led by KLM COO Maarten Stienen was present in Hyderabad to commemorate the launch of this new route together with local partners and invited guests.
KLMMore about Hyderabad
Hyderabad, the capital of the Indian state of Telangana, has a population of over seven million people and is experiencing above-average economic growth. The city is internationally known as the “Pharmaceutical Capital of India,” with more than 800 pharmaceutical companies based in the region. In addition, numerous American and European IT companies are active in the area.
“Hyderabad Airport is the fourth busiest airport in India, after Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru (formerly Bangalore), and is showing rapid growth in passenger traffic. Given its central location in southern India and extensive domestic connections via KLM’s partner airline IndiGo, the city serves as a major business and logistics hub,” said an airline statement.
KLM“India is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world and an important trading partner for the Netherlands and the EU,” said Maarten Stienen, COO of KLM. “Over the past few years, the number of passengers traveling between Amsterdam and India has almost doubled. By adding Hyderabad as a new and important business destination in India, KLM is expanding its network to meet this growing demand.”
Three weekly flights
Starting September 2, 2025, KLM will operate three weekly flights between Amsterdam and Hyderabad (Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays) with a Boeing 777-200ER, equipped with 35 seats in business Class, 24 seats in premium economy, and 229 seats in Economy Class. The airline currently operates 15 examples of the type with an average age of the fleet being 20.7 years old, according to ch-aviation.
Each flight is scheduled to depart Amsterdam at 11:40 local time, arriving in Hyderabad at 00:30. The return flight (KL874) departs from Hyderabad at 02:20 and arrives back in Amsterdam at 08:40. The route length is around 4,598 miles (7,357km).
Flightradar24Hyderabad was one of a trio of new long-haul destinations announced by KLM back in November 2024. The new services to the city join others to San Diego in California, which started on May 8, 2025, and Georgetown in Guyana, which commenced on June 4, 2025. The outbound leg to Georgetown operates via St Maarten in the Dutch Antilles.
