London Heathrow sees busiest ever day in June 2024 handling 268,000 passengers
London-Heathrow Airport (LHR) saw its busiest day in June 2024 as the airport stayed on course to handle more passengers in 2024 than ever before. 7.4 million people traveled through the airport in June 2024 in total, with the airport experiencing its busiest day ever on June 30,2024, serving over 268,000 passengers as the UK school summer holiday rush got underway.
In fact, the airport set a new record in other measures too, by handling over 260,000 passengers per day for five days consecutively – another first for the facility.
The airport is gearing up for its busiest-ever summer season, the peak of which is likely to be mid-July to mid-August 2024. The airport has over 90,000 employees working on-site, including specialist teams tasked specifically with supporting passengers and ensuring a smooth, successful summer for the airport and its operators.
These teams will be on hand throughout each of the airport’s terminals to “ensure a robust baggage service and to assist passengers at every step of their journey,” said the airport. In addition, the airport has formed special teams to maximize on-time punctuality of flight departures, which includes both passenger and ground handling teams working together to achieve this aim, the airport added.

“I want to thank all my colleagues who went the extra mile to make sure the 268,000 passengers traveling on the busiest day had a smooth, stress-free journey. I am thrilled these efforts have been recognized by ACI Europe, highly commending Heathrow in the recent Best Airport awards. We have started summer as we mean to go on” he added.
On the cargo side, the airport handled 126,324 metric tonnes of cargo, a figure that represents an impressive 9.5% increase over the same month in 2023. The rolling twelve-month figure for July 2023 to June 2024 saw 1,532,121 tonnes of air freight handled, an increase of 13.5% over the same period a year earlier.
