Lufthansa Group goes full throttle for Japan in summer 2027
Lufthansa Group is “significantly expanding” its services to Japan from summer 2027, after seeing strong passenger demand to explore ‘The Land of the Rising Sun’.
On October 6, 2026, Lufthansa Group said its airlines will fly to Japan up to 50 times per week to four destinations in summer 2027.
From the airline group Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, SWISS, and ITA Airways all currently operate flights to Japan.
Starting March 29, 2027, Lufthansa will resume its Frankfurt to Nagoya service on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Lufthansa describes Nagoya is one of Japan’s “most important industrial and economic centers”.
Starting March 28, 2027, Lufthansa will also launch a daily flight from Frankfurt to Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT). The airline will also continue to fly daily from both Munich and Frankfurt to Tokyo Haneda International Airport (HND).
Lufthansa will operate both routes with its Boeing 787-9 in the latest Allegris configuration which features 28 seats in business class, 28 seats in premium economy class, and 231 seats in economy.
SWISS is also expanding its service to Japan in the summer of 2027, with up to seven weekly flights from Zurich to Tokyo-Narita.
From September 28 and October 4, 2026, between Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, SWISS, and ITA Airways approximately 39 flights operated between Europe and Japan.
As well as Tokyo-Narita and Tokyo-Haneda, Lufthansa Group airlines fly to Osaka and Nagoya.
“Japan is a key market for the Lufthansa Group, and we are pleased to further strengthen our presence with additional capacity and the resumption of flights to Nagoya,” Dieter Vranckx, CCO of Lufthansa Group, said. “Together with our expanded Tokyo services, these investments provide our customers with more travel options and support the continued diversification of our intercontinental network.
He added: “As the leading European airline group in Japan, we remain committed to connecting people, cultures and economies between Europe and Japan.”
