Malaysia Airlines relaunches service to Maldives with successful opening flight
Malaysia Airlines has relaunched a new direct service to the Maldives, Asia’s smallest country, with a successful opening flight from Kuala Lumpa.
The Malaysia Airlines Boeing 737-800 left Kuala Lumpa International Airport (KUL) shortly after 10am, local time, on August 1, 2024, before arriving at Velana International Airport (MLE) around four hours later.
Flight MH485 was completely full with 174 passengers on board the Boeing 737-800 and was welcomed with a water salute at Velena.
In addition to the new Maldives service, Malaysia Airlines will also launch routes to Chiang Mai, Thailand from August 15, 2024, and daily flights to Danang, Vietnam from September 24, 2024.
The Maldives becomes Malaysia Airlines’ 13th destination in South Asia, which the carrier says reinforces its “commitment to expanding its presence in key markets”.
