One of the highlights of early 2024! The new series produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks arrived in France at the end of January and follows a US Army air force tasked with bombing Nazi Germany.
The event is eagerly awaited by enthusiasts of mini-series about the war, and clearly follows in the footsteps of “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific”, produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. Still set against the inexhaustible backdrop of the Second World War, the Hollywood duo return this time with “Masters of the Air”, recounting the epic story of the 100th Bomb Group, which became the Eighth Air Force (8AF), one of the American air units that lost the most men during the conflict.
There are nine episodes in all making up the mini-series, which is based on the book of the same name by Donald L. Miller. It closely follows the life and battles of the 8AF over Germany, with high-risk missions (the unit targeted the most strategic enemy points) facing Nazi Defensive Counter-Air (DCA) operations and waves of Third Reich fighters. Its ‘weapons’? Boeing B-17 and Consolidated B-24 Liberator bombers and Lockheed P-38, Republic P-47 Thunderbolt and North American P-51 Mustang fighters.
Reminiscent of the images from Christopher Nolan’s film “Dunkirk” shot in the sky, with fear omnipresent, the trailer for “Masters of the Air” already sets the tone, showcasing courage, camaraderie and awesome aerial scenes. It premieres on January 24, 2024!
