MSC Air Cargo orders five 777-8 Freighters at Farnborough Airshow 2026

MSC Air Cargo has placed an order for five Boeing 777-8 Freighters, marking the fast-growing cargo operator’s first purchase of the aircraft type. 

Boeing and MSC Air Cargo announced the previously unidentified deal on July 21, 2026, at the second day of Farnborough International Airshow.

The 777-8 Freighter, part of Boeing’s 777X family, is being positioned as the most capable twin-engine freighter in the industry, combining new technologies with features already favored by operators of the current-generation 777 Freighter.

Jannie Davel, CEO of MSC Air Cargo, an all-Boeing freighter operator and subsidiary of the global logistics group MSC, said the order reflects an investment in the company’s long-term future and in the customers it serves. 

He said the 777-8 Freighter gives the airline the efficiency, range, and capacity to serve customers reliably for years to come, while supporting its move toward more sustainable operations, calling it the right aircraft for the next stage of the company’s growth.

Boeing says the 777-8 Freighter offers the highest payload alongside the lowest fuel use, emissions, and operating cost per tonne of any large freighter currently available. Widebody freighters like it carry roughly 75% of global air cargo capacity, a share expected to keep growing as e-commerce continues to expand demand for air freight.

Brad McMullen, Boeing’s Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing, said MSC Air Cargo’s order reflects a broader investment in expanding the capability and reach of its global network, adding that the 777-8 Freighter is expected to be the most efficient aircraft in its class and will help connect the airline’s hubs to key international markets.

Part of a growing order book

The order brings Boeing’s total bookings for the 777-8 Freighter past 80, with MSC Air Cargo becoming the third Europe-based cargo operator to select the aircraft. MSC Air Cargo currently operates a fleet of Boeing 777-200 Freighters, serving markets across Europe, the Americas, and Asia.
