Multiple flights grounded at Paris Orly after air traffic control breakdown
Hundreds of flights have been delayed or cancelled at Paris Orly Airport (ORY) after air traffic control systems experienced a breakdown.
On May 18, 2025, Aéroports de Paris (ADP), which manages 14 airports in the Paris area, confirmed the issue in a statement on X saying that “due to a breakdown in air traffic control systems at Orly airport, flight delays and cancellations are to be expected.”
Around 130 flights were cancelled, with half leaving and half arriving at the airport, which is around 40% of the 330 scheduled flights, a spokesperson for Aéroports de Paris told French news outlet Le Parisien.
The French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) asked airlines to reduce their evening flight schedules by 40% on the day of the breakdown. Flights to Spain, Denmark, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Ireland, and several French cities were reportedly canceled, and many others were delayed.
In a statement on X the (DGAC) said that “following a malfunction identified in the air traffic control system of the Paris-Orly tower cancellations and delays are to be expected on May 19, 2025.”
At the time of writing, Paris Orly Airport is experiencing average arrival delays of 46 minutes for inbound aircraft, according to real-time data from FlightAware. In the past 24 hours, 36 flights have been canceled.
