NBAA-BACE: Textron unveils three next-generation Cessna Citation private jets
On the eve of the 2024 NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) in Las Vegas, United States (US), Textron Aviation has jumped in with a huge announcement, unveiling plans for the next-generation models of three Cessna Citation private jets.
On October 21, 2024, Textron Aviation announced that a new series of light jets would represent the introduction of the Cessna Citation M2 Gen3, CJ3 Gen3 and CJ4 Gen3.
All three new models are currently in development, but Textron revealed that the Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen3 is expected to enter service in 2026, followed by both the CJ3 Gen3 and CJ4 Gen3 in 2027.
Those attending NBAA-BACE between October 22 and October 24, 2024, will have the chance to see a new Citation CJ3 Gen3 mockup and CJ4 Gen3 cockpit mockup at Textron’s static display at Henderson Executive Airport (HSH).
CJ4 Gen3 – Textron AviationGarmin Emergency Autoland technology will be used in all three new aircraft, and the Citation CJ4 Gen3 features new, next-generation Garmin G3000 PRIME avionics for “intuitive, seamless control” for pilots.
“Today we unveiled the future of flight and the next generation of Cessna Citation light jets — the M2 Gen3, CJ3 Gen3 and CJ4 Gen3 — to carry on the iconic legacy of the trusted Citation brand while introducing cutting-edge advancements and technology,” said Ron Draper, President and CEO of Textron Aviation. “With the inclusion of revolutionary Garmin Emergency Autoland technology, as well as all-new Garmin G3000 PRIME avionics in the CJ4 Gen3, these aircraft promise to elevate the flying experience.”
According to Draper, the Garmin Emergency Autoland system “offers not just an advancement in automated flight capabilities but a profound enhancement in passenger and pilot peace of mind”.
M2 Gen3 – Textron AviationThe system is designed to protect those onboard the aircraft should a loss of control arise following pilot incapacitation, via automated emergency communications and landing.
Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen3
The CJ4 Gen3 features new winglets with enhanced lighting for an elevated ramp presence. Lithium-ion batteries provide enhanced starting power and elevate reliability for more efficient cold weather operations. Plus, it has nearly 10% lower operating costs than its “closest competitors”.
The Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen3 will be the largest Citation aircraft in the light jet segment and is expected to feature a maximum range of 2,165 nm with up to 11 occupants on board.
Cessna Citation CJ3 Gen
The new Cessna Citation CJ3 Gen3 features 4.5 inches of additional legroom for pilots, a maximum range of 2,040 nm and standard seating for up to 10 occupants.
The cabin offers a customizable, luxurious space with amenities including swivel seating, RGB accent lighting and modern connectivity options, alongside a naturally-lit lavatory with optional upscale features.
Cessna Citation M2 Gen3
The new Cessna Citation M2 Gen3 comes with “enhancements that focus on comfort and productivity”, plus technological upgrades that include wireless charging and both USB-A and USB-C ports at each seat.
Citation M2 Gen3 boasts a maximum range of 1,550 nm, three inches extra of room at the co-pilot’s position and seating capacity for up to eight occupants.
