New edition GE Aerospace engine certified to power Bombardier Global 8000
A new edition of GE Aerospace’s Passport engine, designed to power the Bombardier Global 8000, has been certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Transport Canada.
On August 25, 2025, GE Aerospace confirmed that a “critical milestone” had been achieved as Bombardier continues towards full certification of its latest and fastest executive jet.
The Passport engine is already used on the Gobal 7500, but its latest iteration includes more thrust capability, higher fuel efficiency and enables the aircraft to operate over greater distances.
In a post on social media platforms GE Aerospace wrote: “We’re proud to power Bombardier’s new Global 8000 – the world’s fastest business jet.”

The Passport engine has been specifically designed for the Global 7500 and 8000, providing enough power to fly over 8,000 miles on a single tank.
GE AerospaceIn May 2025, the first production Bombardier Global 8000 private jet successfully completed its first flight at the company’s Aircraft Assembly Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.
Two years earlier, Bombardier’s Global 8000 Flight Test Vehicle (FTV) became the first business jet to break the sound barrier in testing, and in 2022 the new aircraft was introduced to the world at EBACE in Geneva.
The Global 8000 is the fastest civil aircraft since the Concorde, with an industry-leading top speed of Mach 0.94.
