New Pacific Airways drops scheduled commercial service to focus on charters
New Pacific Airways announced on March 24, 2024, that it will be discontinuing its scheduled flight program to focus on charter operations.
The US-based startup airline, which was initially expected to link cities in the continental US to Japan and Korea by way of Alaska, has struggled to find the right market for its four Boeing 757-200 aircraft since its public unveiling in January 2022.
After the launch of its Alaskan trans-Pacific services was complicated by regulatory restrictions, the airline looked at alternative markets, such as California to Mexico, and even offered its fleet to operate government-supported services in the Northern Marianas archipelago, an US-associated territory in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
Finally, after changing its name from the original “Northern Pacific Airways”, New Pacific Airways launched scheduled flights to Las Vegas (LAS) from Ontario, California (ONT) in July 2023, followed by Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) and Nashville, Tennessee (BNA).
As of March 2024, only the Nashville route remains active, and this will be wound down on April 5, 2024.
Two days prior to news that the airline will be abandoning the scheduled market, New Pacific Airways announced a partnership with Miami-based Elevate Aviation Group, an executive aviation operator, although details regarding the deal are not yet known.
