Norwegian orders 30 more Boeing 737 MAX-8s, exercises option from 2022 deal
Norwegian has placed an order for 30 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, thereby exercising its option on a previous agreement with the US manufacturer signed in 2022 for 50 737-8 jets.
On September 26, 2025, the carrier said the new order would bring the total to 80 737-8s with the final aircraft in the order now scheduled for delivery in 2031.
In 2022, Boeing and Norwegian announced that the initial 50 aircraft would be delivered between 2025 and 2028, but the two parties have now agreed to adjust certain delivery dates.
In a statement Norwegian said the order extension underlined the airline’s “growth in the years ahead”.
Norwegian currently operates six 737-8s, after signing a lease agreement with Air Lease Corporation in 2023.

Commenting on the order Norwegian said the new aircraft would mean a “more comfortable journey” for its passengers with “quieter cabins and lower emissions”.
“This milestone aircraft order is on attractive terms and secures our fleet growth in a way that supports our planned growth and sustainability targets. By exercising the option and adjusting the delivery profile, we maintain flexibility while reinforcing our commitment to operating one of the most modern and fuel-efficient fleets in Europe,” said Geir Karlsen, CEO of Norwegian.
He added: “These aircraft will not only lower emissions but also provide our customers with an even better travel experience. We are pleased to extend our solid long-term partnership with Boeing through this order.”
Norwegian was the first European airline to take delivery of the 737 MAX in 2017 and was also the first airline to operate the 737-8 model on transatlantic routes between Europe and the U.S.

He added: “Norwegian has been a great partner to the 737 program, having placed over 200 orders for the 737 NG and MAX since 2007. We are honored that Norwegian continues to place its trust in our 737 team to grow its business.”
According to ch-aviation, Norwegian’s current fleet is comprised of 41 active aircraft including six Boeing 737-8s and 25 737-800s.
