Dopo 48 anni a protezione dei cieli del Giappone il 20 novembre sono stati ritirati ufficialmente dal servizio operativo gli ultimi F-4EJ del 301 Hikotai della Hyakuri Air Base nella prefettura di Ibaraki a 50 miglia nord-est di Tokyo. Alla cerimonia hanno partecipato ampiamente rappresentanti della locale base aerea, dei vari Hikotai della JASDF ed autorità politiche.
