A flight attendant stepped in to stop the man, but he succeeded in opening the door and jumped out of the aircraft and onto the tarmac.
According to airport officials, the passenger assaulted a flight attendant before making his escape. The incident is currently under investigation.
Aéroports de Paris (ADP) stated that the passenger was quickly taken into custody by the Brigade de Gendarmerie des Transports Aériens (BGTA) and assured that the safety of operations was never put at risk, local media outlet Midi Libre reported.
According to the Créteil Prosecutor’s Office, the individual will be charged with obstructing the movement of an aircraft, but his detention was lifted due to medical reasons.
The incident forced the A320neo to be towed, leading the passengers to disembark, the Midi Libre report continued. Some were able to depart for Madrid in the evening of February 7, while others were provided accommodations until their next flight.
In August 2024, a similar incident occurred when a man on American Airlines Flight 1175 attempted to open the exit door while flying from Los Angeles Airport (LAX) to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). He also confessed to intimidating a flight attendant during the flight. As a result, the passenger received a 19-month sentence in federal prison.
