Pilot reported icing before Wisconsin Piper JetProp crash that killed six
The pilot of a Piper JetProp DLX single-engine turboprop reported encountering icing and requested a descent before the airplane crashed in Wisconsin on October 13, 2026, killing five adults and a child.
The aircraft was flying from Kenosha to Menomonie when it went down in a wooded area in the Town of Dellona, near Wisconsin Dells.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said on October 14 that the pilot reported encountering icing at 24,000 feet. Air traffic control approved a descent, but the airplane entered a descending right turn that increased in rate until communications and tracking data were lost.
The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office said dispatchers received reports of a downed aircraft near Park Lane at about 21:31 local time. Emergency crews searched the area and found all six occupants dead.
No one on the ground was injured, and no buildings were damaged. Authorities were withholding the victims’ names pending notification of their families.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) identified the aircraft as a Piper PA-46 Malibu Mirage.
The aircraft had undergone a JetPROP DLX conversion, which replaces the Malibu Mirage’s piston engine with a Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6 turboprop. The post Pilot reported icing before Wisconsin Piper JetProp crash that killed six appeared first on AeroTime.
