Piper Cherokee aircraft crashes on Sydney golf course, 2 injured: video
Two men narrowly escaped death when a Piper Cherokee light aircraft crashed on a golf course in Northern Sydney when the aircraft attempted to make an emergency landing.
Local reports said that the plane was making its way back to its Shellharbour flying school from Camden on August 17, 2025, a distance of about 84 kilometers, when the incident occurred.
The two men onboard the aircraft were identified as Ross Curcuran, a flight instructor, and his trainee, Brian Welch. Welch was reportedly in control as the duo were looping around Sydney on their way back to the flying school.
Halfway through the flight, while they were flying over Sydney’s Northern Beaches, the Piper Cherokee’s engine died, causing the aircraft to lose altitude. Curcuran and Welch then decided to perform an emergency landing as the plane was looping around Sydney.

Due to the incident occurring during daytime, a number of golfers watched the scene unfold just meters away.
The flight instructor and his trainee, believed to be both in their 50s, suffered minor injuries due to the crash, and were immediately treated by paramedics. The two have since been transported to Royal North Shore Hospital for further treatment.
Investigations are ongoing. As part of information gathering, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has issued a call out to anyone else who may have video footage or photographs of the incident.
