Qantas sells 44 Boeing 737NGs to AerFin as part of fleet retirement plans

Qantas has sold 44 Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft to aftermarket specialist AerFin as part of plans to retire its workhorse fleet.

On November 4, 2026, AerFin confirmed its “landmark acquisition” of the 44 Boeing 737NGs included 88 CFM International CFM56-7B engines.

The entire transfer process is expected to spread over seven years with the first aircraft expected to leave Qantas later this year.

According to AerFin, the new agreement with Australia’s flag carrier represents the largest transaction in the company’s history.

QantasQantas Domestic CEO Markus Svensson said the airline’s 737s will continue to fly “for many years, alongside our growing fleet of next generation aircraft”.

“This agreement allows us to plan for the retirement of the majority of our 737 fleet while also providing flexibility to adjust the timing as new aircraft arrive,” Svensson said. “We expect to take delivery of up to 24 new aircraft this year, with our next generation fleet improving our operational performance and receiving great customer feedback.”

Qantas has so far received seven Airbus A321XLRs and is awaiting delivery of 41 more, according to ch-aviation data. The A321XLRs are set to replace Qantas’ Boeing 737s.

UK-based AerFin said the retired aircraft will be used to support airlines and MRO customers globally, providing access to aircraft material and tailored aftermarket solutions.

“Transactions of this size require deep technical expertise, strong financial capability and trusted partnerships,” Simon Goodson, CEO at AerFin said. “We’re proud to be working with Qantas on this agreement and look forward to maximizing value from these assets while continuing to support customers across the global aviation aftermarket.”
