Qatar Airways says new widebody paint facility will reduce aircraft ground time
Qatar Airways claims that its planned new widebody paint facility would reduce aircraft ground time for airline operators across the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent.
The recently crowned Skytrax ‘Airline of the Year’ announced on June 19, 2025, that it had signed a strategic agreement with Barzan Holdings and Satys Aerospace to establish a pioneering widebody aircraft painting facility at Dukhan Air Base.
As well as airlines, the new base will also service VIP and military aircraft, and includes two widebody paint facilities as well as a multipurpose hangar for light maintenance activities.
The new Qatar facility will be the first widebody Satys paint facility in the region to feature next-generation digital technology aircraft painting.
Qatar Airways says that the facility will save operators time and money by “eliminating the need to ferry aircraft overseas for livery changes or repainting”.
Qatar AirwaysThe facility will use “cutting-edge digital technology,” with plans to adopt automatic robotic painting processes and a focus on environmentally friendly systems.
“This partnership delivers strategic aviation infrastructure that serves both our national and regional ambitions,” said Qatar Airways Group CEO Mohammed Al-Meer. “Together with Barzan Holdings and Satys, we are introducing breakthrough technologies by building local capabilities that will define the future of Qatar’s aerospace sector. This facility reflects our commitment to excellence, innovation, and empowering Qatari talent.”
According to the airline, the program aligns with Qatar’s National Vision 2030 by “building high-value industrial capabilities, creating skilled jobs and promoting Qatar as a global leader in aviation technology and services”.
Commenting on the agreement, Satys Aerospace CEO, Christophe Cador, said: “We are proud of our partnership initiated in 2021 and remain dedicated to delivering our best to the Barzan Holdings and Qatar Airways. Together, we will continue to strive for excellence in quality, innovation and turnaround time.”
