RAAF conducts military-assisted departure from Tel Aviv using the KC-30A MRTT
The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) recently conducted a successful evacuation of over 100 Australians and their families out of Tel Aviv, Israel.
The military-assisted departure occurred on June 24, 2025, using the RAAF’s KC-30A Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT).
According to Australia’s Joint Operations Command, the KC-30A crew safely flew the mission to Tel Aviv, avoiding the risk of ballistic missiles fired by Iran that were consequently intercepted by Israel.
The RAAF crew then navigated a very short time window to land safely, embark 118 evacuees, and depart.
The entire mission, operating in a high-risk environment, lasted approximately 14 hours.
The mission was part of Operation Beech, which aims to support Australians, including Australian Defence Force personnel and aircraft that have been deployed to the Middle East in non-combat roles. Operation Beech is the Defence Force’s support to the Australian Government consular response to the Middle East conflict.
The KC-30A MRTT is a heavily modified Airbus A330 airliner that allows the RAAF to conduct air-to-air refuelling and provide strategic air lift.
It features advanced communication and navigation systems and an electronic warfare self-protection system for shielding against threats from surface-to-air missiles.
