Ryanair asks Spanish cabin crew to repay raises after legal dispute with union
Ryanair has told some of its flight attendants in Spain to return salary increases agreed in 2024 following a legal dispute with their union.
On October 24, 2024, a pay rise had been agreed with the Spanish union Confederación Sindical de Comisiones Obreras (CCOO) for all flight attendants, regardless of union membership.
However, the agreement was contested in court by another union, the Unión Sindical Obrera (USO), which argued that its members were not represented during the negotiations. Spain’s High Court eventually ruled that the pay deal was not valid.
Consequently, Ryanair is now ordering its USO flight attendants to return the salary increases they have received since the start of 2025.
In a “strictly private and confidential” letter reviewed by Spanish news outlet El Confidential, Ryanair states that the airline has completed the salary calculations and that employees need to return €3,215.95.
Ryanair ends the letter by stating that to lessen the impact of this debt on workers’ salaries, it is ready to offer “a repayment plan of 12 months with the deductions starting in the payslip of June 2025.”
On April 4, 2025, Ryanair informed employees via email that joining the CCOO union could help them avoid debt. If they choose not to join, the airline said the total amount would need to be paid back immediately.
Ryanair has pushed the deadline for cabin crew to accept the CCOO agreement to May 19, 2025. The company suggests that joining CCOO is the only way to avoid debt, allowing its employees to keep the pay increases without repayment.
“If no action is taken before June 1, 2025, the salary reduction and the change of quadrant will be applied,” the company said in a letter seen by El Confidential. The post Ryanair asks Spanish cabin crew to repay raises after legal dispute with union appeared first on AeroTime.
