Silver Airways on brink of closure after unfavorable insolvency trustee report
The future of Florida-based carrier Silver Airways has been cast in serious doubt after the trustee appointed to oversee the airline’s insolvency case has recommended that the business be wound down.
In a report issued on April 11, 2025, and addressed to the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida, the government trustee notes that the troubled airline has little chance of redressing its dire financial situation.
Silver Airways filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings on December 30, 2024, and has since seen its operational fleet significantly reduced amid ongoing disputes with its creditors, which include aircraft leasing companies and several airports.
Although the carrier’s management is reported to have publicly stated that the airline’s financial recovery plan was going well, in the report the government trustee pointed out that the company’s revenue projections were not grounded in reality, on account of its diminished operational capabilities.
The situation has been aggravated by one of Silver Airways’ creditors, aircraft lessor TrueNoord, putting forward a multi-million dollar claim and impounding several of its aircraft, which had been on lease to the Floridian carrier.
Silver Airways, which has been in business since 1988, is one of the only US scheduled airlines to operate a turboprop fleet. According to ch-aviation data, as of April 2025, Silver Airways operates a fleet of six active aircraft, two ATR42-600 and four ATR72-600s, with another five listed as inactive (three ATR42-600s and two ATR72-600s).
Silver Airways is based at Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport (FLL), from where it operates a network covering destinations mostly located in Florida and the Caribbean. The post Silver Airways on brink of closure after unfavorable insolvency trustee report appeared first on AeroTime.
