Six major airlines halt Venezuela flights amid escalating security warnings
Rising security concerns in Venezuelan airspace have prompted several international airlines to suspend operations to the country due to growing safety risks for commercial aviation in the region.
The move comes after the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a notice warning carriers of a potentially hazardous situation caused by increased military activity in and around Venezuela. According to the FAA, these risks could affect aircraft at all stages of flight, including overflights, approaches, landings, and even while on the ground at airports. Airlines are urged to exercise heightened caution when planning flights to or over Venezuelan territory.
Following the advisory, six major airlines, including Iberia, TAP Air Portugal, LATAM Airlines, Avianca, GOL Linhas Aéreas, and Caribbean Airlines, halted their Venezuela-bound flights on November 22, 2025. TAP and Iberia cited the FAA warning as the primary reason for suspending services, although neither has indicated when operations might resume. The decision reflects the uncertainty surrounding the safety of Venezuelan airspace amid escalating military tensions.
Despite the suspensions by these six carriers, some airlines continue to operate flights to Caracas and other Venezuelan destinations. Copa Airlines, Air Europa, PlusUltra, Turkish Airlines, and local operator LASER are still flying for now, providing critical connectivity for passengers while the situation remains under review.

The FAA warning comes against the backdrop of a recent US military buildup in the Caribbean, which Washington describes as part of an expanded anti-drug operation. The deployment includes an aircraft carrier strike group, naval vessels, and surveillance aircraft. However, Caracas perceives the US presence as a tactic to pressure President Nicolás Maduro, further heightening regional tensions and raising concerns about potential confrontation. The post Six major airlines halt Venezuela flights amid escalating security warnings appeared first on AeroTime.
