Small aircraft crashes next to a highway in California, injuring two: video
A small Cirrus S22 private plane crashed in Goleta, California, on January 29, 2025, seriously injuring its two occupants.
The aircraft had taken off from Santa Barbara Municipal Airport (SBA) at 14:15 local time and crashed shortly afterwards in a field next to Highway 101, bursting into flames upon its impact with the ground.
Videos posted online show several bystanders and Highway Patrol officers rushing to extricate the injured from the wreckage.

According to local media reports and the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office, the two injured, a 29-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, are professional pilots employed by a company linked to filmmaker Robert Zemeckis. Both were transported to hospital by ambulance.

Witnesses also reported that the aircraft had deployed its Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS) before impacting the ground. This safety feature is installed on many Cirrus airframes, and it consists of a parachute able to slow down an aircraft in its fall from the sky.
