SpiceJet strengthens fleet with contract for 5 Boeing 737 aircraft
The Indian low-cost carrier SpiceJet is to strengthen its fleet ahead of Winter 2025 with five additional Boeing 737 aircraft.
The airline confirmed on July 25, 2025, that the five Boeing 737s will join the airline as part of a lease agreement. All five are expected to arrive by October 2025.
“This strategic expansion is a step forward in enhancing our operational efficiency, route network, and overall customer experience,” a spokesperson for SpiceJet said.
According to The Economic Times, the aircraft are part of a damp lease agreement, with the lessor and SpiceJet sharing responsibility for operating the planes.
The publication also stated that the airline is in talks with additional lessors to bolster its fleet further while it awaits the arrival of brand-new aircraft.
“This addition will significantly strengthen our fleet and enable us to deliver a superior flying experience to our passengers. We are actively exploring further fleet additions as we prepare for a robust winter schedule,” said Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer at SpiceJet.
According to ch-aviation, SpiceJet’s current active fleet includes three Boeing 737-700s, a single 737 MAX 8, nine 737-800s, a 737-900ER and six Dash 8 Q400s. The airline also has an order with Boeing for 129 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
