Strike at Helsinki Airport cancels flights for 7,000 Finnair passengers
Around 7,000 Finnair passengers are to have their flights cancelled due to planned strikes at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (HEL).
Finnair announced on June 30, 2025, that Finnish Aviation Union (IAU) had confirmed industrial action is set to go ahead on July 2, 2025, impacting all essential ground services related to its flights.
Around 100 Finnair flights will be cancelled with further action planned for later this month, which could lead to more disruption for passengers.
The IAU has also announced industrial action on July 4, 7, 16, 18, 21, and 23, 2025.
“The potential impacts of these actions are still being assessed, so Finnair’s Customer Service is unable to provide information about possible flight cancellations on those dates now. Finnair will notify affected customers directly of cancellations two days in advance,” a spokesperson for the airline said.
Finnair is expecting that the impact of strikes on operations towards the middle and end of July will be less severe than on the early dates.
Customers with bookings on July 4 and 7, 2025 are already being encouraged to change their travel dates and plans.
In June 2025, Finnair announced that it was cancelling 143 flights in response to planned strikes on June 17, 2025. The airline has been hit by a series of strikes over recent months.
