Swiss government presents its new ultra-advanced modified Bombardier Global 7500
A new ultra-advanced modified Bombardier Global 7500 that was delivered to the Swiss government in December 2024, has been unveiled publicly for the first time.
Later this year, the Bombardier Global 7500, will be fitted with a high tech, self-protection system to combat threats from Man Portable Air Defense Systems, known as MANPADS.
The upgraded executive jet will be deployed to transport and protect government and military officials while also carrying out emergency evacuations and critical humanitarian missions.
Delivery and contractual arrangement for the multi-mission aircraft were handled by the Federal Office for Defense Procurement, known as Armasuisse, and the Swiss Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS).
This followed a decision by the Swiss Federal Council in 2023, to find a new state aircraft with considerably greater range and autonomy than any existing aircraft in its fleet.
State-of-the-art technology, in terms of security, efficiency and performance, will be an integral part of the Global 7500’s capabilities. The new aircraft will replace the current Citation Excel 560XL which joined the Swiss fleet in 2002.
As well as the Citation Excel the Federal Air Transport Service, which is responsible for operations, also uses a Dassault Falcon 900EX.
In Bern on January 29, 2025, the Bombardier Global 7500 was presented to the public for the first time after originally arriving in Switzerland on December 19, 2024, following a seven-hour flight from Montreal, Canada.
“The Global 7500 aircraft is a proven and versatile platform that has earned speed records, stood out as the highest performing in its class and has quickly become a customer favorite,” said Stephane Leroy, Vice-President of Sales. “Armasuisse’s aircraft represents a significant milestone for Bombardier Defense, as it is the first Global 7500 configured for head-of-state multi-mission needs. We are proud to have the trust of armasuisse, and to support them with critical transportation and emergency evacuation missions.”
In a statement, Bombardier said that according to Armasuisse Project Manager Samuel Fuhrimann, the collaboration between the two had been excellent.
The new Bombardier Global 7500 has been initially based at the Payerne military airfield but will eventually be stationed at Bern-Belp Airport (BRN).
The aircraft will be ready for full use at the end of 2025.
