The government had admitted on Jul. 20 that it was not aware that a letter of request (LOR) has been sent to the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency on the recertification of the missiles by the Air Force until news came out in the media.
Deputy Defense Minister Chang Che-ping told reporters that the flying branch had made administrative errors in not informing the Ministry of National Defense regarding the LOR. All units in the armed forces have been reminded not to make the same error again.
The U.S. government had approved the approximately $620 million sales package on Jul. 6. The deal angered China which placed sanctions on aerospace firm Lockheed Martin.
