TARMAC Aerosave launches consumer brand of upcycled aircraft parts
The 2025 Paris Air Show was the occasion chosen by TARMAC Aerosave to launch a new brand of upcycled non-airworthy aircraft parts repurposed for several non-aviation uses.
France-based TARMAC Aerosave is a joint venture between Airbus and Safran. In addition to providing maintenance, overhaul and repair services (MRO), TARMAC Aerosave is one of the world’s largest players when it comes to aircraft end-of-life processing.
At its site next to Tarbes–Lourdes–Pyrénées Airport (LDE), in the south of France, TARMAC Aerosave breaks down aircraft that have been retired from service and recycles or reuses most of its components.
With the launch of the new brand, called ‘TARMAC Legacy’, the French company will begin to upcycle a number of parts of components that will be turned into furniture or art pieces. For example, landing gear hatches may be turned into wine racks or connecting rods into lamps.
Cabin elements such as storage boxes, trolleys or torches will also be sold directly to consumers who wish to purchase aircraft objects for decorative purposes. These objects will also be made available to museums and training centers.
TARMAC Aerosave has already been providing some of these materials and components for upcycling by local artists. With the TARMAC Legacy initiative, though, it will systematize the process and turn it into a stand-alone line of business.
What’s more, by upcycling a larger number of aircraft parts, TARMAC Aerosave aims to increase even more the percentage of aircraft materials that is re-used, recycled or upcycled, which stands currently at 92%, therefore reducing the environmental footprint of its aircraft dismantling operation.
The launch of TARMAC Aerosave was hinted at by the company’s representatives during a visit by AeroTime to the Tarbes facility in February 2025, although the specifics of the brand and its scope were not known at the time.
TARMAC Legacy will make its catalogue available for purchase online via a dedicated website. The post TARMAC Aerosave launches consumer brand of upcycled aircraft parts appeared first on AeroTime.
