Turkish Airlines-owned AJet signs agreement for 5 Airbus A320neos with SMBC
Five Airbus A320neo aircraft will join Turkish Airlines-owned subsidiary Ajet after a lease agreement was signed with SMBC Aviation Capital.
SMBC, which is headquartered in Dublin, announced on July 4, 2025, that the five “young” A320neos are scheduled to be delivered from the end of the year through to the second quarter of 2026 and will be operated exclusively by AJet.
SMBC said that that with the new agreement the lessor now has 25 commercial aircraft placed at Turkish Airlines since 2022.
“We are delighted to further strengthen our partnership with SMBC Aviation Capital through this agreement. These new Airbus A320neo aircraft will bolster our operations with their superior fuel efficiency and cost-effectiveness, aligning seamlessly with our commitment to operational excellence and sustainable growth,” said Turkish Airlines Chief Financial Officer, Murat Şeker
He added: “Ajet’s mission is to make air travel more accessible and budget-friendly for all. This collaboration is a testament to AJet’s dedication and a clear step forward in extending the advantages of low-cost aviation to even more passengers.”
SMBCThe Turkish Airlines subsidiary carrier began operating in 2024 after AnadoluJet was rebranded.
“This transaction is a testament to the strong relationship we have built with Turkish Airlines. The Airbus A320neo aircraft will not only enhance AJet’s operational capabilities but also contribute to a more sustainable aviation industry,” said Barry Flannery, CCO of SMBC Aviation Capital.

According to ch-aviation, AJet currently operates a fleet of 90 aircraft with around 80% of planes on wet lease.
The airline owns five Airbus A320-200s and 15 Boeing 737-800s. The low-cost carrier is awaiting delivery of 10 A321neos and 12 737 MAX 8s.
