United Airlines to become first US carrier to restart New York–Tel Aviv flights
United Airlines has revealed plans to resume flights from New York to Tel Aviv, becoming the first US airline to do so in the wake of the 12-day regional conflict between Israel and Iran.
In a statement, released on July 8, 2025, the airline revealed that flights from New York/Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Tel Aviv will begin again on July 21, 2025, with a second daily flight resuming the next day.
The service will continue to operate using Boeing 787-10 aircraft. United also said it offers connections to Tel Aviv through partner airlines, including those in the Lufthansa Group.
“Throughout 2025, United has flown to Tel Aviv more than any other US airline,” an airline statement read. “United service to Tel Aviv always follows a detailed assessment of operational considerations in the region and close consultation with the unions representing our flight attendants and pilots.”
United last operated flights to Tel Aviv on June 11, 2025. The next day, Israel launched an air strike targeting Iranian nuclear and military sites. As a result of the attack, several airlines, including United, have suspended flights to Tel Aviv.
A ceasefire between Israel and Iran was established on June 24, 2025. On July 7, 2025, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) removed its flight bans on Israel, permitting airlines to restart services to the country.
However, in a travel advisory issued on July 1, 2025, the US Embassy in Jerusalem said, “the security situation in Israel, including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem is unpredictable”.
The US government currently advises against all travel to “Gaza due to terrorism and ongoing armed conflict and within 11.3 kilometers (seven miles)” of its border.
Travelers are also cautioned to steer clear of northern Israel within four kilometers (2.5 miles) of the Lebanese and Syrian borders. Furthermore, the region within 2.4 kilometers (1.5 miles) of the Egyptian border is restricted, except for the Taba crossing, which is still operational.
