With this Other Transaction For Prototype Agreement Direct to Phase II contract, the Atlanta-based company will rapidly assess modifications to the Hermeus Mach 5 aircraft to support the Presidential and Executive Airlift fleet.
The company had tested its turbine-based combined cycle engine to Mach 4-5 conditions in Feburary. It only took 9 months to design from scratch, built and test the engine.
The feat was possible as the team had taken a off-the-shelf gas turbine engine and integrate it with the company’s pre-cooler technology.
