Wizz Air announces expansion and reorganization of Bucharest operations
Wizz Air announced, on July 20, 2025, a major expansion at Bucharest’s two international airports, Otopeni- Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP) and Baneasa- Aurel Vlaicu International Airport (BBU).
Otopeni, which is the largest and busiest of the two international airports serving the Romanian capital, will see the launch of six new routes. Starting in October 26-28, 2025, Wizz Air will launch services from Otopeni to Brindisi (BDS) and Pescara (PSR), in Italy, as well as to Cologne (CGN), Gdansk (GDN), Porto (POR) and Bratislava (BTS).
The pan-European low-cost carrier will also re-organize its activity in Bucharest with a rebalancing of the routes it operates from each of the city’s two airports.
Also from October 26, 2025, four destinations which are already served from Otopeni, Milan-Bergamo (BGY), Barcelona (BCN), Brussels-Charleroi (CRL) and Turin (TRN), will get additional services from Baneasa, as well.
In addition to these, another five routes will be launched from Baneasa exclusively. These are Basel-EuroAirport (BSL), Frankfurt (FRA), Memmingen (MMA), Nice (NCE) and Athens (ATH).

In making the announcement of the launch of the new routes, Mauro Peneda, Managing Director of Wizz Air Malta, highlighted that Romania is the airline’s largest market. As of June 2025, Wizz Air operates eight bases throughout Romania, located at Bucharest-Baneasa, Bucharest-Otopeni, Cluj-Napoca (CLJ), Craiova (CRA), Iasi (IAS), Sibiu (SBZ), Suceava (SCV) and Timisoara (TSR).
