Wizz Air introduces new flight deck technology to improve passenger comfort
Wizz Air, the European low-cost airline group, has announced the introduction of new in-flight technology across its entire fleet of Airbus aircraft to support advanced flight operations and to improve comfort for passengers. The innovations being introduced include smart flight path recommendations for pilots and advanced weather guidance systems, which are now being used on all Wizz Air flights.
In a program that started in March 2025, Wizz Air began the rollout of the new technology, which equipped pilots with StorkJet’s FlyGuide FPO (Flight Path Optimization) solution that evaluates aircraft performance models and actual flight data using machine learning algorithms. According to a Wizz Air statement, the AI-driven tool recommends “optimal speeds and altitudes for each phase of the flight, from climb to cruising and descent, with personalised advice delivered to pilots via their tablets.”
“With this information, pilots can make more informed decisions that lead to more efficient flights,” says the Wizz Air statement. “Pilots can also avoid unnecessary carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions. After more than 10,000 test flights, Wizz Air achieved 0.5% to 1% fuel and CO₂ reduction per flight with no compromise to safety.”
Wizz Air“We are happy to expand our longstanding relationship with Wizz Air, now with the further innovations in the flight deck,” said Renata Niedziela, CEO at StorkJet. “FlyGuide FPO delivers clear, aircraft-specific recommendations for speed and altitude throughout the whole flight, helping pilots make better decisions – improving fuel efficiency, reducing CO₂ emissions, and enhancing overall flight performance, without adding complexity.”
Real-time weather data
Also, starting in August 2025, Wizz Air pilots now have access to real-time in-flight weather data in the flight deck through AVTECH’s Aventus and SIGMA systems. Wizz Air states that these tools “enhance traditional pre-flight weather briefings by delivering dynamic, route-specific notifications during the flight. Pilots will receive up-to-the-minute information about wind patterns, turbulence, and other conditions along the flight path, such as icing, thunderstorms, and volcanic ash. With this feature, pilots also see routes in four dimensions (latitude, longitude, altitude, and time) and receive suggestions in their on-board computer on how to reach a destination most efficiently.”
“We are pleased to expand our service delivery to Wizz Air following a comprehensive product evaluation process,” said David Rytter, the CEO at AVTECH. Our in-flight services are powered by the latest high-resolution aviation weather forecasts from the UK Met Office. The Aventus and SIGMA service combination delivers accurate and tailored wind and temperature information to the flight deck during flight, along with automatic and precise alerts for turbulence and other weather hazards along the flight path. We look forward to a strong collaboration with Wizz Air, aimed at enhancing flight efficiency, punctuality, and passenger comfort across their operations.”
Wizz AirLess exposure to turbulence
Wizz Air states that with active usage of such technologies, flights are expected to be less exposed to turbulence, with fewer sudden changes in altitude. The systems also have optimised wind data, especially during descent, enabling the aircraft to determine the most efficient point to start the descent, improving fuel efficiency and arrival accuracy. Within initial analysis, the Aventus system shows 10 to 15 kg (22 to 33 lbs) of fuel saving per flight. This level of real-time in-flight awareness was not previously available to pilots across low-cost airlines, who had to rely on pre-departure forecasts or third-party applications, adds the airline.
“Wizz Air is proud to be the first adopter of these systems, well ahead of our main competitors,” said Diarmuid Ó Conghaile, Chief Operations Officer at Wizz Air. “Flight Path Optimization from StorkJet assists our pilots in smart decision-making. The solution is easy to use, reduces CO2 emissions, and supports our long-term Net Zero 2050 aspirational goals. While both these functions operate behind the scenes, the benefits are noticeable for passengers on board.”
Wizz Air“Our customers will experience quieter, smoother flights with less turbulence, especially during climb and descent. This development fits perfectly with the airline’s Customer First Compass initiative. By combining the latest advances in weather forecasting and flight planning, Wizz Air is giving its 2,700 pilots the latest generation in in-flight tools to serve our more than 75 million annual passengers with a better flying experience,” he concluded.
