Wizz Air to open 10th Romanian base at Brașov-Ghimbav, launch four new routes
Wizz Air announced on August 12, 2026, that it will be opening a new base at Brașov-Ghimbav International Airport (GHV), establishing its 10th base in Romania.
The low-cost carrier will base one of its Airbus A321neo aircraft at the airport, which is located at the center of Romania.
This aircraft will support the launch of four new routes from December 2026, linking Brașov to Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden (FKB), Germany, Chișinău (RMO), Moldova, Barcelona (BCN), and Madrid (MAD).
However, Wizz Air isnot a newcomer to Brașov. The airline has served this Romanian city from several of its other bases since 2023, the year in which this new greenfield airport opened for business.
In fact, the low-cost carrier is the only major airline to serve the airport and accounted for the vast majority of the approximate 330,000 passengers that used the facility in 2025.
As of August 2026, Wizz Air isthe only major airline to operate a scheduled year-round program at the airport, with services from Budapest (BUD), Dortmund (DTM), Katowice (KTW), London–Luton (LTN), Memmingen (FMM), Nuremberg (NUE), Milan–Malpensa (MXP), Naples (NAP), Rome–Fiumicino (FCO) and Warsaw (WAW).
While it was initially expected to be suspended, the route to Nuremberg, launched in October 2025, will remain on the 2026/27 winter season program.
Additionally, a route linking Brașov to Valencia (VLC), set to start in November 2026, was revealed in July 2026, when Wizz Air announced the establishment of its new base in the Spanish city.
This is the latest in a string of new European base announcements ope this summer. Starting in the winter season 2026/27, Wizz Air will establish new bases with aircraft permanently positioned at Palermo (PMO), Pristina (PRN), Santiago de Compostela (SCQ), and Madrid-Barajas (MAD).The post Wizz Air to open 10th Romanian base at Brașov-Ghimbav, launch four new routes appeared first on AeroTime.
