X-61A came within inches of airborne capture during flight testing
DARPA announced that three X-61A Gremlins Air Vehicles (GAV) made nine attempts to dock with the docking bullet extended from a C-130 during the third series of testing that started from Oct. 28.

During each attempt, the drone was just inches away from connecting with the docking bullet but the relative movement was more dynamic than expected. All three drones were safely recovered by parachute.
DARPA will now analyze the data and update models and designs so that it can attempt a successful airborne capture in the spring of 2021.
