Could MH370 finally be found? Malaysia to resume search in high-probability area

The Ministry of Transport in Malaysia has announced that it will restart the deep-sea search for the missing wreckage of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, more than a decade after the infamous plane disappeared without a trace. 

In a statement released on November 3, 2025, the ministry confirmed that the search for the missing wreckage will resume on December 30, 2025, with Ocean Infinity, the company leading the operation, conducting search efforts for a total of 55 days. 

The search will take place in a specific area identified as having “the highest probability of locating the aircraft”, but the exact details of the locations have not been officially revealed. 

“The latest development underscores the government of Malaysia’s commitment in providing closure to the families affected by this tragedy,” the ministry said. 

MH370 search efforts over the years 

The search for the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 has been ongoing for years and is considered one of the biggest searches in aviation history. On March 25, 2025, the Malaysian government renewed its agreement with Ocean Infinity to continue the mission. 

The company had previously conducted two searches for the missing aircraft: an initial three-month operation in 2018 and a second attempt in March 2025, which was stopped in April 2025 due to bad weather conditions. 

As the company resumes its search, the agreement remains under a ‘no find, no fee’ contract, meaning that Ocean Infinity will receive $70 million if it successfully finds the aircraft wreckage within a 15,000 square kilometer area of the southern Indian Ocean. 

11 years ago, on March 8, 2014, Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, vanished with 239 people onboard. The flight, operated by a Boeing 777-200ER, disappeared from air traffic control radars less than an hour into its six-hour flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. It is believed that all passengers and crew members lost their lives.  

Over the years, large areas of the Indian Ocean have been searched, yet the wreckage has never been found.  

The exact reason for the disappearance has never been determined and continues to be one of the biggest mysteries in aviation history, with theories ranging from mechanical failure to a hijacking attempt, or a deliberate intervention by those in the cockpit.  The post Could MH370 finally be found?
