DREAM PLANE OVER DREAMLAND: MISSION CARIBBEAN.

What happens when a filmmaker is sent to one of the world’s most breathtaking destinations to capture aviation at its finest? A journey through the Caribbean becomes far more than just another assignment. It transforms into an unforgettable adventure, island-hopping aboard the state-of-the-art Tecnam P2012 STOL, an aircraft purpose-built to connect some of the most spectacular and challenging airports on Earth.
I arrived in the Caribbean on a scheduled flight from Miami to St. Maarten, eager to discover one of the world’s most fascinating regional aviation networks. From there, I boarded a small ferry to the beautiful island of St. Barthélemy, arriving in the charming harbor of Gustavia, where my adventure truly began. The island is renowned for its exclusive atmosphere, luxury resorts, designer boutiques, and world-class restaurants, making it one of the Caribbean’s most prestigious destinations. The island is equally famous for its pristine white-sand beaches, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and the spectacular Gustaf III Airport, famous for its breathtaking scenery and one of the most demanding landing approaches in the world, especially on Runway 10. It is also here that Air Inter Iles operates its fleet of Tecnam P2012 STOL aircraft, connecting some of the Caribbean’s most spectacular islands.
As a filmmaker and photographer for Tecnam Aircraft, I traveled to the Caribbean to experience firsthand how modern regional aviation keeps these island communities connected. The P2012 STOL is perfectly suited for this environment, effortlessly operating from short and challenging runways while offering a surprisingly spacious and comfortable cabin for up to ten passengers. These aircraft serve both business and leisure travelers, linking destinations such as St. Barth, St. Maarten, St. Juan or Fort de France, while returning regularly to Air Inter Iles’ main base at Pointe-à-Pitre International Airport in Guadeloupe, where the fleet is maintained and serviced.
My journey was much more than simply observing regional air transport. It was also part of an extensive promotional photo and video production organized by Air Inter Iles. I had the pleasure of working alongside a talented local photographer, airline owner Vincent – who is also one of the company’s P2012 STOL captains – his co-pilot Valentin, wonderful professional models, and an incredibly dedicated local production crew. Together, we created marketing and promotional content while flying between some of the Caribbean’s most spectacular destinations, including Terre-de-Haut in the Îles des Saintes and the beautiful island of Marie-Galante.
Although I visited in October, the tropical sun was relentless, and there were moments when it felt as if my cameras were melting under the Caribbean heat. Yet the atmosphere among the entire team was so positive and energetic that every long shooting day became an unforgettable experience. Before the aerial productions even began, I spent time filming aircraft arrivals at St. Barth from the famous observation point overlooking the approach to Runway 10. This iconic location has become legendary among aviation enthusiasts thanks to the dramatic twelve-degree approach path that brings aircraft just above the steep hillside before touching down moments later.
Watching the Tecnam P2012 STOL perform these landings was truly impressive. The aircraft’s exceptional short takeoff and landing capabilities seemed tailor-made for this extraordinary airport, while its stability remained remarkable throughout every flight.
This airplane was built for exactly these kinds of operations, It’s so stable that many passengers actually fall asleep during the approach
Vincent told me with a smile. “We sometimes call it ‘the nap plane’ because despite the powerful engines, there are almost no vibrations inside the cabin.”
The Caribbean completely captured my heart. It reminded me that aviation is not only about transportation but also about connecting people, cultures, and extraordinary places. For me, the Tecnam P2012 STOL proved to be the perfect aircraft for this remarkable environment, combining capability, comfort, and unmistakable Italian design.
