SWISS increases upcoming Airbus A350 fleet to 10 jets after five more ordered
Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) is set to increase its upcoming Airbus A350-900 fleet to 10 aircraft after announcing it has ordered an additional five.
The Swiss flag carrier confirmed on December 5, 2024, that an order update should see the new Airbus A350s arriving between summer 2025 and the end of 2031.
The order for the first five A350-900s was announced in 2022, as a part of Lufthansa Group’s purchase of 25 A350s, which was signed with Airbus in 2019.
Those initial five A350s were scheduled to start arriving in 2025. The new additional Airbus A350-900 aircraft will arrive from 2027 onwards.
SWISS said that the new Airbus A350 jets are part of an overall investment by the Lufthansa Group.
“Our new Airbus A350s will make our fleet even more modern,” said SWISS CEO Jens Fehlinger. “This is a major investment, and a vital one to ensure that we continue to meet our customers’ high expectations. With these advanced twinjets and their innovative cabins, we’re bringing our long-haul aircraft fleet up to a totally new level of modernity, sustainability and inflight comfort for our guests.”
SWISS’ fleet of Airbus A350-900s will join the airline configured with the new ‘SWISS Senses’ cabin interior. Routes for the new planes will be finalized over the next few months.
The investment by SWISS in Airbus A350s was initiated to replace its aging wide-body fleet of A340s.
